VDS_E_OBJECT_EXISTS
VDS_E_OBJECT_EXISTS is a failure result for an operation whose precondition is that no matching object exists. Unlike the success status VDS_S_ALREADY_EXISTS, this code means VDS cannot transparently reuse the existing object for the requested operation.
Locate the conflicting object before changing names or IDs
- Enumerate the relevant provider, pack, disk or volume collection.
- Compare stable VDS object identifiers and properties, not only display names.
- Choose explicitly between reusing, deleting or renaming the existing object.
Blindly generating another name may hide the real issue when the conflict is based on an object ID, access path or provider association. Re-read the method contract that returned the error and identify which field must be unique. If concurrent management applications are involved, refresh VDS before retrying so the decision uses current provider state.
