VDS_E_VOLUME_TOO_SMALL
VDS_E_VOLUME_TOO_SMALL is a VDS formatting result stating that the volume is too small to format. It is distinct from VDS_E_CLUSTER_SIZE_TOO_SMALL: one rejects the target volume size, while the other rejects the allocation-unit size supplied to the format method.
Identify which size VDS rejected
IVdsVolumeMF::Format receives the file-system type and cluster size as explicit inputs but operates on an already selected volume. Keeping those values together in diagnostics prevents a client from “fixing” the cluster size when the volume itself is below the supported format boundary.
What to verify
- Capture the volume size in bytes and the exact VDS file-system type chosen for the format request.
- Keep the requested allocation-unit size in the same log record so the neighboring cluster-size errors can be ruled out.
- Resize or recreate the volume only after the intended file system and its supported size requirements have been confirmed.
