VDS_E_VOLUME_INCOMPLETE
VDS_E_VOLUME_INCOMPLETE means the volume is incomplete; the current AllStat description expresses the practical symptom as not all extents being found. In VDS, a volume can be simple, spanned, striped, mirrored, or RAID-5, so missing extent information must be interpreted against the actual volume type.
Map the missing part of the volume topology
The volume-status rules show that missing disks affect simple, spanned, striped, mirrored, and RAID-5 layouts differently. A spanned or striped volume depends directly on every contributing disk, while redundant layouts have their own failure thresholds. The first task is to preserve the list of disks and plexes that VDS can still enumerate.
What to verify
- Read
VDS_VOLUME_PROPto capture volume type, status, health, transition state, and size. - Enumerate plexes and contributing disks and compare them with the expected storage inventory or previous configuration.
- Do not initialize or clean a disk that appears foreign or missing from the current layout until the volume membership has been reconstructed.
