VDS_E_PACK_NOT_FOUND
VDS_E_PACK_NOT_FOUND A VDS pack is the software-provider container that groups disks and volumes. Dynamic-disk operations in particular depend on pack identity and pack status. This HRESULT means the requested pack object cannot be found; it does not by itself say that every physical disk formerly associated with that pack has disappeared.
What the VDS state means
Pack discovery starts from IVdsSwProvider::QueryPacks, and VDS_PACK_PROP supplies the pack GUID, name, status, and flags. A stale saved GUID, a provider refresh, a foreign-disk transition, or removal of the provider object can leave an application referring to a pack that is no longer present in the current enumeration.
Diagnostic focus
- Re-enumerate packs from the owning software provider and compare pack GUIDs instead of matching only the display name.
- Check whether disks moved from an online primary pack to a foreign state or were removed before the failure.
- If a VDS notification indicated pack removal or change, discard cached child disk and volume references associated with the old pack object.
- Do not create a new empty pack solely because the old GUID was not found; first determine whether the target disks already belong to another online or foreign pack.
