VDS_S_GPT_BOOT_MIRRORED_TO_MBR
This warning is the reverse partition-style case from an MBR-to-GPT boot mirror. The source boot volume is on GPT and the new mirror plex is placed on an MBR disk. VDS can maintain mirrored volume data, but the secondary disk does not automatically acquire a firmware-compatible system partition, BCD store, or boot-manager path. The published VDS result explicitly says the new plex cannot be used to boot the computer.
Why this state matters
Validate the mirror as storage and the secondary disk as boot media in two separate workflows. VDS volume and plex properties show data-path availability; BCDBoot and BCD configuration describe the boot environment. Changing the partition style after the warning is not a trivial repair because conversion and boot preparation have their own prerequisites and may alter the dynamic-disk configuration.
Diagnostic focus
- Check current plex health and synchronization independently of boot configuration.
- Confirm the firmware mode and partition style expected for the machine boot path.
- Inspect boot files, the system partition, and BCD entries on the intended recovery disk.
- Do not equate an online secondary plex with a verified bootable secondary disk.
