VDS_E_BAD_PNP_MESSAGE
VDS_E_BAD_PNP_MESSAGE means the provider could not trust a Plug and Play change notification used to update its view of storage devices. The failure concerns notification structure or content, not merely the fact that a disk was inserted or removed.
Reconcile notification and enumerated state
- Record the device-change event and the provider object affected at the same time.
- Re-enumerate hardware providers to discover actual connected and disconnected subsystems.
- Refresh cached properties only after enumeration has established the current object set.
Do not act on IDs contained only in the rejected notification. A stale or malformed event can refer to an object that has already disappeared. Hardware-provider Reenumerate performs discovery, while Refresh updates cached data for known objects; using the two operations for their documented purposes avoids preserving a false topology.
