VDS_E_INVALID_PLEX_TYPE
VDS defines simple, spanned, striped, and parity plex types. A mirrored volume is represented by multiple plexes rather than by a “mirror plex” type; each plex itself has one of the documented plex layouts. The plex type also controls whether stripe size and multiple members are meaningful. Passing an unknown value or applying a valid type in the wrong operation can fail topology validation.
Why this state matters
Log the raw enumeration value rather than translating every unexpected type to “RAID.” Microsoft notes that additional enumeration constants can appear in future versions and applications should handle unrecognized values gracefully. For an existing object, retrieve the plex properties from VDS; for a create or repair path, validate the requested volume/plex relationship before constructing member arrays.

- Capture the raw
VDS_VOLUME_PLEX_TYPEvalue and the VDS method receiving it. - Distinguish the volume type from the plex type; a mirrored volume can have multiple plex objects.
- Only interpret stripe-size and member semantics after the plex type has been validated.
- Do not coerce an unknown future enumeration value to
VDS_VPT_SIMPLE; fail or surface it explicitly.
