VDS_E_MEMBER_REGENERATING
This HRESULT is narrower than the volume-level regenerating state. VDS has identified the particular member involved in an active rebuild. Starting another repair or incompatible topology operation against that same member would overlap the recovery workflow. The correct response depends on the current asynchronous operation and member health, not on a blind retry loop.
Why this state matters
Query the containing plex and volume and preserve the member's disk/extent identity. Monitor the existing recovery until it completes or fails. If it fails, investigate the target disk and storage path that received regenerated data. A second repair request while the member is still rebuilding can obscure the original failure and does not accelerate the copy.
Diagnostic focus
- Map the regenerating member to its disk and extent location.
- Check the asynchronous recovery result and current volume/plex transition state.
- Inspect I/O errors on the source and destination disks if progress stops.
- Issue a new repair only after the active regeneration reaches a terminal result.
