VDS_E_INVALID_FS_TYPE means the supplied VDS_FILE_SYSTEM_TYPE is not acceptable. The value can be outside the enumeration, incompatible with the current method, or unavailable for formatting the selected volume.
Validate against VDS filesystem capabilities
- Use the documented filesystem enumeration rather than a textual filesystem name.
- Query filesystem types known to the VDS service before presenting choices.
- Check volume and media restrictions separately from the enum value itself.
Do not translate arbitrary strings directly into numeric enum values. A valid enum can still be unsupported on a specific volume, which should be reported as a capability issue rather than an invalid type. On modern Windows, ReFS and other format support also depend on edition and volume characteristics.
