VDS_E_FS_NOT_DETERMINED means the service could not determine an appropriate default filesystem. The decision depends on volume size, device/media type, current layout and the filesystem types supported for formatting.
Query capabilities and choose explicitly
- Read current filesystem properties if a filesystem already exists.
- Query the service for known filesystem types and formatting support.
- Specify an explicit supported filesystem when the application cannot rely on a default.
Retrying without changing the volume or request does not provide new information. Do not assume NTFS solely because the target is a fixed disk; specialized, removable or provider-managed volumes can have different constraints. Report the available choices and why no default was selected.
