What does HRESULT 0x80042709 (VDS_E_ISCSI_LOGOUT_FAILED) mean?

VDS_E_ISCSI_LOGIN_FAILED VDS_E_ISCSI_SESSION_NOT_FOUND

VDS_E_ISCSI_LOGOUT_FAILED

LogoutFromTarget operates on the target ID and performs a manual logout from all iSCSI sessions to that target. This status is the direct failure result for that operation. It is broader than losing one TCP connection, because an iSCSI target can have session state that the initiator service must tear down and VDS exposes logout as an asynchronous operation.

Why this state matters

Do not confuse the code with VDS_E_ISCSI_LOGOUT_INCOMPLETE. The incomplete status explicitly means at least one session failed while others may have logged out. This code reports the logout operation as failed; the caller should still enumerate actual remaining sessions before deciding whether anything changed.
