VDS_E_SHRINK_OVER_DATA

IVdsLun::Shrink removes bytes from the end of a LUN. This HRESULT is the data-safety guard for a requested reduction that would overlap volumes containing user data. It is not a report of free space inside one file system; the LUN can surface a disk whose partition or volume layout extends into the tail region that the provider would remove.

Why this state matters

The operation must therefore be coordinated from the host-visible layout outward. Shrinking the storage object underneath an unchanged disk/volume layout can truncate data even when a filesystem reports free clusters elsewhere. The new LUN boundary must lie beyond every required disk extent and partition structure.
