VDS_E_LUN_DYNAMIC
VDS_E_LUN_DYNAMIC means the disk surfaced from the selected LUN participates in the legacy dynamic-disk model. LUN shrink must coordinate lower-level capacity with disk and volume layouts, and this path does not support an online dynamic disk.
Map dynamic volumes before changing capacity
- Enumerate the pack, volumes and plex extents that use the disk.
- Check whether volumes span other disks or depend on mirrored/striped layouts.
- Migrate data to a supported storage design instead of shrinking the LUN underneath LDM.
Removing a drive letter or formatting one volume does not convert the disk to basic. Conversion is destructive and can affect every dynamic volume in the pack. Because VDS and dynamic disks are deprecated for new designs, capacity changes are a good point to migrate rather than deepen the dependency.
