VDS_E_NO_POOL_CREATED
This code describes absence of a VDS storage-pool object, not merely a drive that lacks membership. IVdsHwProviderStoragePools::QueryStoragePools returns the pools managed by a hardware provider and can legitimately return an empty enumeration when the provider manages no pools. Pool-based LUN creation or capacity queries then have no object on which to operate.
Why this state matters
The distinction from VDS_E_NO_POOL is useful: one refers to a drive not contained in a pool, while this status says there is no pool created. The remediation belongs to the storage subsystem/provider configuration. VDS does not synthesize a pool simply because free drives are visible.
Diagnostic focus
- Query the hardware provider for storage pools without restrictive filters and confirm whether the enumeration is empty.
- Check the array or provider management plane for the expected pool creation and import/configuration state.
- If filters are used, repeat the query without attribute or free-space constraints so an existing pool is not hidden by selection criteria.
- Only retry the VDS pool operation after the provider reports a concrete pool object with current properties.
