Choose a compatible property store
- Identify whether the file uses EFS, Rights Management protection, or an application-specific encrypted container.
- Determine which storage module attempted the write and whether it modifies file contents.
- Use an external database or system cache module when policy permits and in-file metadata is not writable.
Do not decrypt or rewrite protected documents automatically just to attach a classification value; that can violate access policy and alter signatures or forensic data. The file can remain readable to an authorized user while still being unwritable to the FSRM module account. Preserve the original protection and select a storage method designed for that file type.
