XACT_E_LOGFULL
The transaction log is part of the commit protocol, not optional diagnostics
XACT_E_LOGFULL means MSDTC cannot append the durable records required to coordinate or recover transactions. A transaction manager must persist decisions and participant information before acknowledging critical protocol transitions; proceeding without log space could make committed or prepared work unrecoverable after a crash.
Reduce new transaction load, inspect storage health, and determine whether old transactions are prevented from being forgotten because participants remain offline. Do not delete or replace the DTC log as a routine space-clearing action: outstanding in-doubt transactions may depend on it. Resolve blocked recovery, correct the underlying storage condition, and follow supported DTC administration procedures before resuming high-volume work.
Log-pressure evidence to collect
- DTC log location, capacity, and storage errors.
- Count and age of prepared or in-doubt transactions.
- Unavailable participants preventing transaction cleanup.
- Transaction arrival rate immediately before exhaustion.
