CRYPT_E_OID_FORMAT
A cryptographic object identifier was malformed. OIDs identify algorithms, certificate extensions, and CMS attributes, so a formatting error usually means the encoded input is invalid or was parsed with the wrong structure.
What to check
- Validate the original DER/BER input and confirm that the field is being decoded as the intended ASN.1 structure.
- Check for message truncation, text conversion, or proxy processing that changed binary data before CryptoAPI received it.
- Do not replace an OID with a guessed value; obtain a correctly encoded message or certificate from the issuer.
