What to check
- Locate the signer certificate and build its chain in the same context used by the application.
- Check the intended trust anchors, intermediate certificates, CTLs, and applicable chain policy.
- Do not trust a signer merely because its signature verifies cryptographically; signature validity and trust are separate checks.
