SPAPI_E_DI_POSTPROCESSING_REQUIRED
The co-installer has registered a postprocessing phase
SPAPI_E_DI_POSTPROCESSING_REQUIRED is a deliberate result from a co-installer’s preprocessing callback. SetupAPI records the request, continues through class-installer and default handling, then invokes that co-installer again with the postprocessing flag set and the install result available in the context structure.
Treating the first return as a fatal error prevents the second phase and can leave installation state incomplete. Conversely, returning the status during the postprocessing call is invalid because there is no third pass.
Preserve state across both callbacks
- Store only the per-operation context needed by the later callback.
- On postprocessing, inspect the result produced by the main installation path before committing dependent work.
- Release context data on every exit path, including failures before the second call.
- Do not use co-installer postprocessing as a substitute for unsupported long-running background work.
