SCARD_W_UNPOWERED_CARD
Not the same as a removed card
SCARD_W_UNPOWERED_CARD says that power was removed from the card and further communication through the current state is not possible. The card can still be physically present in the reader. This differs from SCARD_W_REMOVED_CARD, where the card is no longer available at all, and from a normal application-level failure after a successful APDU exchange.
Power state can change during reader resets, power-management transitions, removal and reinsertion, or recovery from a lower-level error. A handle obtained before the transition should not be treated as a valid secure session: selected applications, authentication state, and negotiated protocol may no longer be usable.
Recovery path
- Query the reader state to determine whether the card is still present and whether an ATR is available.
- Use
SCardReconnector establish a new connection as appropriate, then reselect the application and repeat required authentication. - Do not resend a protected or state-changing command until the post-reset state is known.
