BitLocker validates specific boot applications

The Boot Configuration Data store identifies loaders such as bootmgr, winload, and winresume. FVE_E_BCD_APPLICATIONS_PATH_INCORRECT indicates that a path used for an integrity-protected application is missing, malformed, or points to an unexpected location.

This is more specific than a general boot failure. BitLocker evaluates boot configuration as part of deciding whether a TPM protector may release the operating-system key. An invalid custom validation entry can also prevent BitLocker from being enabled even when Windows currently boots.

How to diagnose safely

Export the current BCD store and inspect bcdedit /enum all before making changes.
Identify which boot application and element are referenced; event 523 can report the hexadecimal BCD element involved in recovery.
Compare paths with the actual EFI System Partition or system partition and the active firmware boot entry.
Do not disable integrity validation globally to hide the error; correct the invalid entry or policy and retest with recovery material available.
