Windows keyboard support is not preboot keyboard support
FVE_E_NO_PREBOOT_KEYBOARD_DETECTED warns that a PIN or other interactive operating-system protector may require input before Windows drivers are loaded, while the firmware environment has not exposed a usable keyboard. A keyboard that works at the Windows sign-in screen can still be unavailable to the boot manager.
This is especially important for tablets, convertibles, Bluetooth keyboards, docks, and USB controllers whose firmware support differs by port or boot mode.
What to test
- Perform the test during a cold boot and in the actual BitLocker preboot prompt, not only in firmware setup.
- Try an integrated keyboard or firmware-supported wired USB keyboard without relying on Bluetooth pairing.
- Review firmware USB, legacy-input, and fast-boot settings and update firmware where appropriate.
- Ensure a documented recovery path exists before requiring a PIN on devices without reliable preboot input.
