WHV_E_INVALID_VP_REGISTER_NAME
The register namespace is architecture- and platform-version-specific
WHV_E_INVALID_VP_REGISTER_NAME occurs when a register identifier passed to a WHP register API is not valid for the current virtual processor. The WHV_REGISTER_NAME set includes architecture-specific control, segment, interrupt, synthetic and state registers, and newer SDKs can define names unavailable on older systems.
The values and result buffers are parallel arrays, so one invalid element can invalidate a batch. Casting a raw integer from another architecture or using an incorrect count can make a valid neighboring register appear to be the problem.
Evidence and corrective action
- Log every requested
WHV_REGISTER_NAME, its array position and the host architecture. - Use the register enum definitions for the target architecture rather than persisting numeric values across platforms.
- Reduce a failing batch to one register at a time to identify the unsupported name.
- Match register names with the current Windows SDK and runtime capabilities.
- Verify that the VP index exists and is in a state allowed by the chosen get/set operation.
