STATUS_VOLMGR_INCOMPLETE_DISK_MIGRATION
Pack migration completed with disks left behind or only partly imported
STATUS_VOLMGR_INCOMPLETE_DISK_MIGRATION is a warning-class result for dynamic-disk migration. The target pack operation progressed, but at least one disk did not complete the migration and might require reimport after the hardware problem is corrected.
A pack is the management unit that contains related dynamic disks and volumes. If only some source disks arrive or remain accessible, the target can have enough metadata to describe volumes while still lacking extents, members, or complete redundancy from the original configuration.
The important diagnostic artifact is the before-and-after disk set. Compare disk identities, pack membership, Foreign/Missing state, and the migration task result; do not create replacement volumes in the free-looking regions until you know whether those regions belong to an incompletely imported layout.
What to inspect
- List every source disk expected in the migration and identify which ones are absent, offline, or still associated with another pack.
- Correct storage visibility or transport problems before deciding that a disk must be reimported.
- After all hardware paths are stable, refresh the storage view and verify the volume topology rather than judging success by drive letters alone.
