WINCODEC_ERR_PROPERTYNOTFOUND means that the requested bitmap or metadata property is not present in the current image or metadata block. Absence is often normal: a file may simply not contain a thumbnail, EXIF field, XMP item, or optional container-level property.
How to handle it
- Treat an optional property as optional and provide a fallback rather than failing image loading.
- Query the appropriate decoder or frame level; many formats expose properties only on individual frames.
- For metadata, verify the query path against the actual image format and metadata blocks present in the file.
Differentiate a missing property from WINCODEC_ERR_PROPERTYNOTSUPPORTED, which means the codec does not implement that property at all.
