STATUS_THREAD_IS_TERMINATING
The thread is already in its termination path
Thread termination is a state transition, not an instantaneous deletion of every observable thread object. A handle can remain queryable while the thread is exiting. This status tells the caller that the requested operation arrived after termination began and cannot be applied as though the thread were still running.
Capture the thread exit code, process state and the operation that raced with termination. Avoid treating a valid thread handle as proof that the thread can still be suspended, modified, or used as a target for new work. If asynchronous code retains thread IDs, remove or cancel pending operations when a termination notification is observed.
What to inspect
- Record the thread ID, exit status, and operation rejected during termination.
- Cancel queued control work when the thread lifecycle moves to exiting.
- Distinguish an exiting thread object from an invalid handle or invalid thread ID.
