A global or domain group is different from a local alias, and APIs for one object class do not automatically search the other. The status can also follow deletion, rename, replication lag, or use of a group SID from another domain without the required trust context.
Log the domain handle and object class expected by the caller. If the intent was to modify a local group, use the alias/local-group API rather than retrying the domain-group call with the same name.

- Verify whether the object should be a domain group or a local alias.
- Resolve the SID in the intended domain before changing membership.
- Check for rename or deletion using directory audit and replication data.
