STATUS_RESOURCE_DATA_NOT_FOUND
The requested resource data is missing from the image
Win32 resources are stored in the PE resource section as a hierarchy leading from type to name and language to the final data entry. This status indicates that the lookup reached a condition where the resource data itself is unavailable. It is different from failing to find the requested type or name earlier in the hierarchy.
Record the module path and exact resource identifiers, then enumerate the module's resource tree. Check the file actually loaded by the process; side-by-side copies or localization files can make inspection of a similarly named binary misleading.
What to inspect
- Capture the loaded module path, type, name/ID, and requested language.
- Enumerate available resource types, names, and languages in that exact module.
- Verify the final resource data entry and module version before rebuilding the resource.
