What does NTSTATUS 0xC000011F (STATUS_TOO_MANY_OPENED_FILES) mean?

Previous Next
STATUS_MAPPED_FILE_SIZE_ZERO STATUS_CANCELLED

STATUS_TOO_MANY_OPENED_FILES

The remote server or redirector reached an open-file limit

This status is specific to remote-drive handling. The client cannot create another remote open because the server, session, redirector, or legacy protocol has exhausted the number of file handles it can represent.

Count opens by session and process instead of treating the message as local disk exhaustion. Leaked handles, large fan-out, and applications that keep directories open can hit the limit. Closing unrelated local files or increasing memory without locating the constrained table may not change the result.
