STATUS_FLOPPY_ID_MARK_NOT_FOUND
The floppy controller could not find a sector ID address mark
Floppy sectors include address marks and ID fields that identify cylinder, head, sector, and size. The controller searched the track but did not detect the expected ID address mark, so it could not locate a sector header for the command.
Common causes include unformatted or foreign-format media, damaged magnetic recording, incorrect drive geometry, head alignment problems, or excessive contamination. Preserve the requested track and sector and try a known-compatible drive before formatting valuable disks.
What to inspect
- Record cylinder, head, sector, data rate, and expected media geometry.
- Test the disk read-only in another compatible and aligned drive.
- Image recoverable sectors before cleaning, rewriting, or reformatting the medium.
