STATUS_UNABLE_TO_UNLOAD_MEDIA
The drive could not complete the unload operation
Unload normally rewinds or prepares the medium and makes it removable. Failure can result from an active reservation, locked eject mechanism, outstanding I/O, mechanical fault, door state, or a cartridge that the robotic transport cannot access.
First determine whether the medium remains loaded and whether its position is known. Do not command a changer to pull a cartridge that the drive has not successfully presented. Cancel or drain I/O, unlock if supported, and inspect hardware status before retrying.
What to inspect
- Record drive state, outstanding requests, lock state, and changer element status.
- Wait for rewind or immediate operations to finish before retrying unload.
- Use operator intervention if the mechanism reports a persistent mechanical failure.
