STATUS_DEVICE_CONFIGURATION_ERROR
The device cannot operate with its current configuration
Configuration includes assigned resources, firmware descriptors, INF parameters, registry settings and class-specific capabilities. This status means those inputs do not form a valid operating configuration. It can occur even when the hardware is detected and the driver image loads successfully.
Compare the actual device instance with the package and settings selected for it. Copying configuration from another model can create plausible but invalid values. Review the start-device resources and the first rejected parameter rather than changing many registry values at once.
What to inspect
- Record hardware IDs, firmware revision, driver package and instance-specific parameters.
- Compare raw and translated start resources with what the device programs successfully.
- Use SetupAPI and driver logs to identify the first invalid setting or descriptor.
