STATUS_NOT_TINY_STREAM indicates that the target stream does not use the compact or “tiny” representation expected by the requested operation. Its data may have crossed a size threshold, been converted to another storage form, or never qualified for the specialized path.
Caller guidance
- Query the stream representation or size before selecting the tiny-stream operation.
- Fall back to the normal stream path when the format permits it.
- Do not infer representation solely from the current data length; metadata can preserve another allocation form.
- Revalidate after writes that may trigger promotion to a larger representation.
Implementation concern
Code that caches the stream class can race with growth or conversion. Keep representation checks and the dependent operation under the synchronization required by the storage subsystem.
