STATUS_PLUGPLAY_NO_DEVICE
The driver has no enabled PnP device to control
Legacy service loading and PnP enumeration are different mechanisms. A service entry can request that a driver image load while the corresponding devnode is disabled, removed or never enumerated. This status prevents the driver from assuming that hardware resources and a started device stack exist.
Re-enabling the service alone is not enough. Confirm the physical device, bus enumeration, hardware IDs, devnode state and matching driver package. If the hardware was intentionally removed, clean up the obsolete service or package rather than repeatedly loading a driver with no device instance.
What to inspect
- Enumerate present and phantom devnodes and record the matching hardware and compatible IDs.
- Check the device problem code, service start type and SetupAPI installation log.
- Verify that AddDevice and IRP_MN_START_DEVICE occur before any hardware access.
