STATUS_DFS_UNAVAILABLE
The contacted server cannot currently provide DFS namespace processing
This status is used when the server-side DFS namespace is unavailable, including cases where namespace initialization has not completed. It differs from STATUS_PATH_NOT_COVERED, which can intentionally trigger referral resolution for a valid DFS link.
Check the DFS Namespace service, namespace metadata, domain connectivity for domain-based namespaces, and the specific root target contacted by the client. Retrying another healthy namespace server can succeed, but repeated failures across targets indicate a broader configuration or directory-service problem.
What to inspect
- Identify the namespace server and root target that returned the status.
- Check DFS service state, event logs, and namespace metadata access.
- Compare referrals and connectivity across all configured namespace servers.
