STATUS_DIRECTORY_SERVICE_REQUIRED
The operation requires an available directory service
This status is returned when the operation depends on directory-backed state and the current environment cannot provide a directory service. It should be separated from a simple object-not-found result: the infrastructure required to resolve or modify the object is unavailable.
Record machine domain membership, selected domain and domain controller, DNS/DC discovery results, and the API that returned the status. A local-account or registry workaround is not equivalent when the requested operation has directory semantics.
What to inspect
- Capture domain membership, target domain, and selected domain controller.
- Check directory-service reachability and the discovery path used by the caller.
- Retry only after the required directory service is available and the same policy context can be resolved.
