STATUS_DRIVER_DATABASE_ERROR
Driver package state could not be read or updated reliably
Device installation depends on the Driver Store, INF metadata, catalogs and SetupAPI bookkeeping. This status indicates an error in that package-processing layer rather than a hardware protocol failure. The relevant cause can be a malformed package, inconsistent store state, storage error or interrupted servicing operation.
Do not manually delete random Driver Store directories. Identify the package and transaction in SetupAPI.dev.log, verify system-file and storage integrity, then use supported package-management tools. Manual removal can leave published INF names and device bindings inconsistent.
What to inspect
- Find the first failure and package identity in SetupAPI.dev.log.
- Verify INF, catalog and referenced files are complete and have expected hashes.
- Use pnputil or servicing tools to remove, restage or repair the package transaction.
