STATUS_DAX_MAPPING_EXISTS
Active DAX mappings prevent the requested volume operation
A DAX file mapping gives a process direct access to persistent-memory storage. This status means at least one active mapping still references the volume, so an operation that would invalidate addresses or change the storage layout cannot proceed safely.
Find the process and mapped file, stop new mappings, flush application state according to the application protocol, and unmap the views. Closing an unrelated file handle is not sufficient when a memory mapping remains active.
What to inspect
- Identify processes with mapped files on the DAX volume.
- Coordinate application shutdown and persistence barriers before unmapping.
- Retry the maintenance operation only after all mappings are released.
