What does NTSTATUS 0xC000A282 (STATUS_APP_DATA_EXPIRED) mean?

STATUS_APP_DATA_EXPIRED

Cached application data is no longer valid

Windows returns STATUS_APP_DATA_EXPIRED from application packaging, registration, cache, or activation handling. A Fast Cache entry exists but its validity period or generation is stale. Reusing the bytes despite this status can bind activation to obsolete package or policy state.

Capture timestamps and package generation, refresh through the owning API, and check whether clock changes, update rollback, or profile restoration produced stale metadata.

Expiration is a cache-lifecycle result, not evidence that the underlying package payload is corrupt. Confirm system time and package generation before investigating disk integrity or reinstalling the application.
