STATUS_CLOUD_FILE_PROPERTY_CORRUPT
The placeholder property metadata is corrupt
Cloud placeholders combine ordinary file information with identities, policies, custom states, and provider-managed properties. This status indicates that the property store failed structural or consistency checks. It is more specific than the provider being offline: reconnecting the sync engine does not by itself make corrupt metadata valid.
The authoritative remote item may still be intact. Recovery should preserve local modifications and determine whether the provider can reconstruct properties from its database or cloud service. Generic file-copy and restore tools can cause problems when they preserve the visible file but omit or partially restore placeholder metadata.
What to inspect
- Capture placeholder information, file identity, sync-root ID, property bytes or identifiers, and provider logs.
- Check storage health and backup or restore history for metadata loss or truncation.
- Determine whether the item contains unsynchronized local data before recreating the placeholder.
- Regenerate metadata through the sync provider and Cloud Files APIs, not by copying properties from another item.
