NS_E_CCLINK_DOWN: the failing boundary

NS_E_CCLINK_DOWN (0xC00D0023) means Two Content Servers failed to communicate. The important boundary is content-server link; do not replace this result with a broader “Windows Media failed” diagnosis.

What this result proves

This code proves that two Content Servers could not communicate over their control/content link. It does not, by itself, prove a codec, permissions, network, device, or media problem outside that boundary. Preserve the first lower-level result when one exists, because later Player or Encoder errors can hide the original cause.

Evidence and focused verification

Record both server identities, link endpoint, protocol, last successful exchange and first transport error; verify the link itself before testing client playback. Keep the media object, endpoint, profile, or device identity fixed while changing only that rejected precondition. A successful retest should pass this exact boundary; a different HRESULT from a later stage is new evidence, not recurrence of NS_E_CCLINK_DOWN.
