NS_E_NO_SERVER_CONTACT
NS_E_NO_SERVER_CONTACT: the failing boundary
NS_E_NO_SERVER_CONTACT (0xC00D00CE) means Unable to contact the server. The important boundary is server reachability; do not replace this result with a broader “Windows Media failed” diagnosis.
What this result proves
This code proves that the client could not contact the target server at the stage required by the operation. It does not, by itself, prove a codec, permissions, network, device, or media problem outside that boundary. Preserve the first lower-level result when one exists, because later Player or Encoder errors can hide the original cause.
Evidence and focused verification
Record resolved endpoint, protocol, proxy/gateway path, dns result and first connection error; test the same endpoint rather than a different server. Keep the media object, endpoint, profile, or device identity fixed while changing only that rejected precondition. A successful retest should pass this exact boundary; a different HRESULT from a later stage is new evidence, not recurrence of NS_E_NO_SERVER_CONTACT.
