Keep the failing item and recorder state
Record item path/size, staging status, recorder and media profile, write speed, write offset if available, and the first lower-level IMAPI or device error. Note whether the same item fails consistently.
Retest
Verify the staged source file independently, then retry with unchanged content while varying only the proven recorder/media condition. If another item writes successfully, investigate item/staging specifics; if all writes fail, focus on the recording stack.
