MF_E_UNSUPPORTED_SERVICE

MF_E_UNSUPPORTED_SERVICE normally means that service discovery reached an object which does not provide the requested service. Media Foundation service lookup is not interchangeable with a plain QueryInterface: MFGetService uses both a service GUID and an interface IID, and the returned interface can belong to another object.

Record both identifiers

Log the service GUID, requested IID, and the concrete object on which MFGetService or IMFGetService::GetService was called.
Verify the service is documented for that object. For example, metadata providers and rate-control services are requested with different service identifiers.
Do not retry the same service query after changing only the IID unless the service itself is actually supported.

Microsoft's metadata workflow explicitly documents MF_E_UNSUPPORTED_SERVICE when a media source does not expose MF_METADATA_PROVIDER_SERVICE. The correct fix is to choose a supported service path or feature fallback, not to treat the HRESULT as a missing COM registration.
