MF_E_INVALID_FORMAT

MF_E_INVALID_FORMAT is a structural validation failure. Media Foundation recognizes the media format context, but the format data presented to the source or component is not valid enough to use.

Keep “invalid” separate from “unsupported”

Compare this HRESULT with MF_E_UNSUPPORTED_FORMAT. Unsupported content can be well-formed yet outside the component's supported set; invalid content has inconsistent, truncated, or malformed format information. Capture the exact media type attributes or container header bytes passed to the failing component.

Re-trying with a different decoder can hide the original source error. Validate the format using a parser for the actual container or elementary stream and fix the producer, transfer, or media-type construction that generated inconsistent data.
