STATUS_SXS_IDENTITY_DUPLICATE_ATTRIBUTE
An assembly identity defines one attribute twice
STATUS_SXS_IDENTITY_DUPLICATE_ATTRIBUTE means that the same identity attribute was provided more than once. An assembly identity needs one unambiguous value for each field used to identify or bind an assembly; two values cannot safely be collapsed into one.
This is different from STATUS_SXS_VERSION_CONFLICT. A duplicate attribute is malformed within a single identity declaration, while a version conflict occurs between component requirements that are otherwise individually meaningful.
What to inspect
- Check generated XML and identity-string construction for repeated
name,version, architecture, language or token fields. - Avoid concatenating identity fragments from multiple templates without parsing and normalizing them first.
- After removing the duplicate, confirm that the remaining identity exactly matches the referenced assembly manifest where required.
