STATUS_MONITOR_WMI_DATABLOCK_REGISTRATION_FAILED
The WMI exposure path failed, not necessarily the monitor link
STATUS_MONITOR_WMI_DATABLOCK_REGISTRATION_FAILED belongs to the management-data path for monitor capabilities. Windows exposes monitor information through WMI classes under root\wmi; registration failure means a provider data block could not be made available to management clients.
Do not equate it automatically with invalid EDID or a failed display mode. A mode can be negotiated while a WMI provider registration fails, and a display issue can exist while WMI registration remains healthy. The useful distinction is whether descriptor acquisition and VidPN enumeration succeeded before the management publication step.
What to check
- Capture the failing WMI class or data block, provider event, monitor instance name, and driver build.
- Check whether raw descriptor and display-mode enumeration still work independently of WMI.
- Avoid using a WMI query failure alone to diagnose a cable, panel, or GPU hardware fault.
