STATUS_GRAPHICS_MCA_INTERNAL_ERROR
The Monitor Configuration API path reported an internal error
STATUS_GRAPHICS_MCA_INTERNAL_ERROR is a Windows NTSTATUS value from the graphics/display facility. In this group, the status is tied to protected video output, OPM/COPP compatibility, PVP certificate validation, output-protection hardware, or the monitor configuration path.
The Monitor Configuration API exposes monitor controls such as brightness, contrast, color temperature, and capability queries through high-level and low-level monitor functions. This graphics status indicates an internal failure in that path rather than a specific unsupported setting.
Because monitor control often travels through display-driver and monitor-side protocols, the same monitor can behave differently through HDMI, DisplayPort, docks, KVMs, or virtual/remote display paths. Capture the physical monitor handle, requested control, and driver/connector context before assuming the monitor firmware is at fault.
What to check
- Log the monitor handle, requested MCA function, VCP/control code if applicable, and connector path.
- Check whether GetMonitorCapabilities reports the control before attempting to set it.
- Retest without dock/KVM/MST/remote-display layers when the error is intermittent or connector-specific.
