STATUS_GRAPHICS_NO_MONITORS_CORRESPOND_TO_DISPLAY_DEVICE
The GDI device did not map to a monitor
STATUS_GRAPHICS_NO_MONITORS_CORRESPOND_TO_DISPLAY_DEVICE means that the GDI display device passed to the operation has no associated monitor. A logical display device, an adapter path, and a currently connected monitor are related but distinct concepts; a valid device string alone does not prove that a monitor object is available for it.
This can occur with disconnected targets, virtual or indirect display paths, stale device selection, or topology transitions. Diagnose the current mapping from display device to target and monitor instead of applying EDID or mode fixes to an arbitrary active screen.
What to check
- Record the GDI device identifier, adapter and target mapping, active desktop state, and hot-plug generation.
- Enumerate current display paths before using monitor-specific information from a device identifier.
- Distinguish this mapping failure from a connected monitor with invalid or unavailable descriptor data.
