STATUS_NDIS_BAD_VERSION
The driver and NDIS disagree about the interface version
STATUS_NDIS_BAD_VERSION is a compatibility-contract failure. NDIS registration and request structures identify a version or revision so that the framework can decide which callbacks and fields are valid. A mismatch is not evidence that the NIC link is down.
Compare the NDIS version requested by the driver or component with the WDK contract it was built for. In particular, do not change only a version constant while leaving a structure layout or callback table from a different NDIS revision.
Evidence that narrows it
- Log the NDIS major and minor version, the structure header type, revision, and size at the failing boundary.
- Compare the installed binary and INF package with the WDK version used to build the driver.
- Treat a version failure separately from
STATUS_NDIS_UNSUPPORTED_REVISION, which usually concerns a particular request structure revision.
